GHOULTIDE GATHERING HERE WE COME!

Just wanted to let you all know that I will be leaivng in the next few days to attend GHOULTIDE GATHERING held at Mill Race Village in Northville, MI! I am so excited to be helping my best friend Joyce Stahl of Enchanted Productions who is one of the Halloween Artists who will be doing this amazing show!

If you live anywhere near there (or far away).....it will be well worth the trip to see these amazing artists along with their wonderfully wicked art!

Just look for the orange Enchanted Tent to visit us and the little Enchanted Ones!

This year is the first that there will be a preview night on Friday night from 6pm-9pm. Cost is $20 which includes a free Ghoultide Tote, live music from the Appleseed Collective, refreshments and candy treats. Tickets will go on sale at 2pm Friday afternoon next to the General Store as you enter the village. The price of the preview will also get you into the show on Saturday from 10am-2pm.

Saturday's ticket price is $5.

The little Enchanted Ones are so excited and just dying to meet you!

PFATT Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Auction

Hello!

I want to invite you all to the 2nd Annual PFATT Charity Auction. This auction is for Breast Cancer Awareness.

The auction will go live on Sunday June 12th at 9:30pm EST-6:30pm PST. members of my Ebay group Primitive Folk Art Talk & Tea will be making special ornaments to adorn a 34" tall cream colored real goose feather tree from Ragon House.

The PFATT members have graciously given their talents and time to design OOAK ornaments to be auctioned off for this very worthy cause.

100% of the proceeds from this auction will go towards the nonprofit organization FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered). To provide support, resources and information and promote awareness and research specific to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and to unite families affected by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

This nonprofit organization was picked by one of our members, Carly, who is a breast cancer survivor.

Pictured here is a peek at my ornament for the auction. She is titled "Pretty in Pink". Made from a vintage wooden thread spool and adorned with pink glitter, tinsel garland and a vintage pink glass bead. She has a rusty twisted wire hanger. Hand painted in acrylics, she has pink hair and pink eyes too. She will come signed and dated by the artist...me. Ü

Just listed this evening on ebay is this hand made mixed media hang tag/ornie made by me...Vintage Palette Art. Made from a coffee dyed paper hang tag, I added a print of a little witch riding her broom through the moonlit woods with her familiar. Hand stitching around the print is free form and the words "Midnight Ride" along with little stars is done in cream colored quilter's thread. I made the hanger from rusty twisted wire and shaped it into a star and attached it with a silver ornate button.

"Petra Pumpkin" Mixed Media Painting

It's been quite a while since my last listing on ebay. Seems like after the holidays are over....so is my creative flow....lol

This painting was fun to create. I upcycled a raised panel painting that I had left over from the holidays.

This large painting measures 13 inches wide by 14 inches high with a wire hanger that adds another 3 inches. It also features a distressed paint finish.

The raised panel painted surface measures 7 1/4 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches high. Petra has been painted with acrylic paints and has been sealed to protect her.

Her hat and collar have been cut from the pages of an early 1900's book. Her tophat is adorned with a rosette made from orange crepe paper and has a vintage celluloid button center. It also features an irredescent peacock feather.

January 19th marked the 202nd birthday for Edgar Allan Poe....best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre.

The eBay group Primitive Folk Art Talk & Tea is having a POE Challenge to celebrate Edgar's Birthday!

Below is the "Happy Birthday Poe" Mixed Media hang tag/ornament that I made for this special occasion.

I made this hang tag from a coffee dyed tag, painted it black and distressed it to make it look old. I added the finely detailed portrait print, hand stitching and a touch of whimsy in his party hat and baloon that were made from the pages of an early 1900's book.

Halloween Give It Forward Clock....

Last year I was the lucky recipient of this adorable Halloween clock hand painted by Artist Terrye French of Thepaintedpearbasket! She posted this clock on her blog and my name was drawn to be the keeper of this clock for one year. Now....it is my turn to Give It Forward!

This little clock has a secret compartment in the top that will have a hidden treasure that will be yours to keep. When it is your turn to Give It Forward, you may keep the little treasure and replace it with something of yours.

The bottom of the clock also opens to reveal another compartment in which there is a scroll that Terrye signed and now it is my turn to sign the scroll before I Give It Forward.

You have from now until 12:00 midnight PDT to leave a comment here for me about your favorite thing about Halloween or a Halloween memory of yours.

So Excited to be in the Fall Issue of PRIMS!

I was lucky enough to have two submissions published in the current issue of PRIMS magazine along with my article on the Penny Feather Tree! Which also got a mention of the front cover...A Tribute to Penny McAllister. Penny would be so proud! We all miss her so much!

I will be listing the two pieces of mine that were featured in the gallery section on eBay as soon as they return from California next week. Oh how I have missed them!

I am especially proud of my little hang tag/ornie that is published in there. She is so detailed and I think she is one of my best to date! Her picture here just doesn't do her justice.

And the little chunky canvas painting that I submitted was actually for our EHAG Black & White Fright Night Challenge. Instead of listing her....I mailed her out along with my hang tag. And off to Laguna Hills, California and the Stampington & Company they went! My fingers and toes were crossed hoping and praying that they would make the cut and be accepted into this issue. Then several months later.....after my fingers and toes were all cramped up....I got the email saying that my submissions were going to be published along with the Penny Feather Tree story! YEEHAW!!!!

I promise that I'll be back to share their auction links when I have them both listed on ebay. Oh....and thank you for listening to me gloat......hehehe I'm a happy little Halloween camper right now! =D

I am so excited to share this news! It's a first for me....first time that my art has ever been published! One of my hang tag/ornies is in the Fall Issue of Celebrate365!! (You can order a copy by clicking on the previous link.)

My little hang tag/ornie is one of the items featured on page 20.

This paper hang tag is hand painted in acrylic paints with vintage papers, hand stitched stars, vintage button, real german glass glitter accents and a hand formed rusty wire hanger. It measures 2 1/2" wide by 4 3/4" long and the wire hanger adds another 4". The back is covered with a vintage looking Halloween scrapbooking paper. I have named her "Angelina Luminista" because of those full lips of hers....lol

Here is the gorgeous front cover featuring artwork by the talented Scott Smith of Rucus Studios! What Halloween Fun!

And the back cover features a painting by my friend Joanne Harper and ornaments by some of my favorite artists...including my best friend Joyce Stahl!

I am sooooo honored to be in this magazine and especially this issue! It really and truly means alot to me!

I knew when I saw this bowl come into the shoppe that I would have to transform it into a pumpkin candy dish! I had the perfect little knob to give it too! A real pumpkin stem that I had kept the past 2 or 3 years just waiting to be used! I think it fits perfectly...don't you?

I gave her that eggshell crackle finish that I love also!

And that double paper collar or ruff adds a nice touch also! ♥

It seems like forever since I have had time to paint! I was so busy with the Fireworks Festival festivities that I haven't had time to make anything for months!

I found this little vintage wooden shoe last at a garage sale and just knew that I had to paint something Halloween on it!

I just love making OOAK Halloween art pieces that you wouldn't normally find anywhere else. The penny rug fingers were made using vintage papers, little tack nails, vintage style paper trim and black glass glitter.

I picked these gorgeous double ruffled yellow daffodils from besdie my house today. They were here when we bought this house 26 years ago........and who knows how long they were here before that? I've never seen this type before. To me, they look so old fashioned and lovely. :)

Ever since 2005, my eBay group PFATT (Primitive Folk Art Talk & Tea) has had an ornament swap. It's THE best swap EVER! I have participated every year and now have quite a collection of ornies from my PFATT sisters! They are some of my most treasured ornaments ever......all handmade from the heart.....those are THE BEST kind!

A Visit From St. Nicholas/'Twas the Night Before Christmas

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

The Magic of The Polar Express.....

This past Friday night, Morgan, Jadyn & I went on the Dennison Depot's Polar Express. It was bitterly cold night and we were hoping for some of that white stuff to fall from the black night sky as we waited patiently for the train to pull into the station. There was lots of stuff to look at as we waited and picture opportunities too. All the Christmas lights were twinkling merrily and the Depot looks so magical at night.

We also had a special passenger that went along with us. My friend Joyce Stahl of Enchanted Productions made a Polar Express inspired doll. She went dressed in her little holly print nightgown and her special little tag that says "I Believe" and she carries her special bell too! I listed a couple of these little snowman/snowflake pins/ornies on ebay the other day. These can be hung on the tree as an ornament or taken off the hang tag.....they're a festive pin to wear on your holiday coat! You get double duty from these little cuties. I've added some vintage mica flakes to give them that touch of shimmer like new fallen snow! Sorry the pics don't show the sparkly effect too well.

First Annual Gnadenhutten Lion's ClubTrunk or Treat....

This year the newly formed Gnadenhutten Lion's Club of which I am the secretary hosted the first annual Trunk or Treat in the parking lot of the Community Savings Bank parking lot located on the square and across from the fire station. Trick or Treat was from 6:00-7:30. This being our first one and being on a Saturday and a football game night too....we weren't sure what to expect as far as a turn out. We had 140 treat bags done up plus a bag of little candy bars of about 40 just in case we ran out. Well, by 6:35....we had run out of all our treats! Luckily, the other Lion's Club members had candy that they were passing out, so we were still able to give out treats from all the trunks. We were just in shock at the amount of kids, parents and 4 legged trick or treaters! By the end of the night, we were trying to guess how many there were and we were guessing the number to be somewhere around 300 at the least....probably more! So next year, we are making up at least 300 bags of treats.

We all had a great time and the kids and parents loved our idea of Trunk or Treat. I was so surprised that so few of them had ever heard of it before. The kids were so polite and I heard lots of comments about how nice it was and how much they loved the decorations.

I hope you enjoy the pics and if you live in our neighborhood..........you are more than welcome to come and join us next year. All you have to do is drive in, open your trunk and decorate it if you wish. We encourage the ones passing out candy to dress in costume too!

I saw this pumpkin display in a friend's yard one day and I thought...what a perfect place to take a picture!

So, the other day I said to Jadyn.....come on! We're going to go take your picture with a scarecrow! Well, of course she said SURE....because she heard the word picture! The girl just loves to get her picture taken! She definitely does NOT get that from her Nana!

SO off we went!

After after having to practically force her behind those gorgeous mums.....I wondered why she was a bit hesitant.

And then her little voice said...."I'm scared." Awwwwwww!! I said it's ok....he won't hurt you.

Well you can tell that passed rather quickly as soon as I said, "Say Pumpkin Seeds!"

Just look at that big pumpkin cheesecake grin on her face! hahaha!

Haunted Houses & Vintage Halloween Costumes.......

Wish I had one that looked like these ones! I wonder how many little Trick or Treaters would be brave enough to come up and ring the doorbell?

Wish I had this costume to wear! You know what I never noticed until now? Her headpiece is an upside down bat! They just don't make kids costumes like this anymore!

Aren't they adorable? Can you just imagine their excitement for Trick or Treat back during the Depression?

And this is my all time favorite little girl! I know she isn't dressed up...but her victorian era clothing and that Jack O'Lantern with the candle in his mouth just melt my heart!

A pic of the most amazing spider web windows from the spookiest house I have ever been in! The Winchester Mystery House..........I would absolutely LOVE to be there to take a tour on Halloween night! If you are ever in San Jose, CA.....you absolutely must take the tour!

Doesn't take mch to make a little 3 1/2 year old happy! I think she's grinning from ear to ear just like the little JOL I painted on her face! Not much time for details when you're painting on a toddler.....lol She wasn't very happy when I washed it off while she was getting her bath though. ~Ghoultide Gathering........the most amazing Halloween Show~

This past Saturday I attended the most magical Halloween Show in Michigan! I don't know how many of you have heard of Ghoultide Gathering but it's one of the top rated Halloween shows in the nation. The list of Halloween artists doing the show was simply enough to make your jaw drop and the art just made you drool!

If you are a lover of all things Halloween.......you MUST mark your calendar for this time next year. Believe me when I tell you that you DO NOT want to miss it!

Below are some of the pics that I took while there. No pictures are allowed to be taken inside the show, so all of these were taken outside, at the hotel where we stayed and during our dinner Friday night with some of the artists, collectors and friends of ours.

Here's Joyce's newest eBay doll Maria who just insisted that she go along for the ride....and how could we say NO to her when she's wielding that big rusty meat cleaver around????

And she also came bearing gifts!

Friday night we had the best time eating out at Macaroni Grill with fellow EHAG and PFATT artist friends and new friends Dani from Spooky Time Jingles & Halloween collector and artist Hugh Luck. Joycee and Hugh drew little Halloween doodles on the paper tablecloth with crayons, then exchanged their artwork! What fun!

Scott's amazing pumpkin head scarecrows greet the visitors as they came through the tents at the entrance to Mill Race Village where Ghoultide Gathering was held.....

The crowds didn't let the rain dampen their spirits as they waited patiently in line for the doors to open........

I've waited for the chance to see these guys for the past 2 years now! Don't you just LOVE them!!

And last but certainly not least....Joyce and I asked Scott if he would mind stepping outside to have a picture taken with each of us. Don't you just love his victorian outfit? Part of the charm of this show is that most of the artists dressed up for the occasion in Halloween outfits. =D

Scott and I.....and what a sweetheart he is too! He also signed our copies of Art Doll Quarterly's Fall Issue of which he and Joyce were both featured in! Thank you so much Scott for putting on such a delightful show and giving us this chance to meet so many wonderful Halloween artists in one place. We had the best time ever and plan on making this an annual tradition!

Oh and here is a pic of my ID badges (made by my friend Becky Hart of Hart Photography) especially for the show so we could be easily picked out in the crowd..........

And here are my two purchases from the show. I wish I could have afforded to buy more but this gives me a good excuse to go back next year....right? ;o)

Joyce and I have Way too much Fun!

This has to be my favorite photo shoot ever! As many of you know, and some may not, I take the pics for Joyce's dolls that we list on eBay under my shoppe ID Villagegiftshoppe. Joyce makes the dolls and writes up the descriptions.....and I take their pics and list her auctions and add the music to go along with her dolls. Mortimer has a very special song to go along with his auction that Joyce found. It's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python and it fits Mortimer perfectly as he is known as The Whistling Mortician.....*giggle*

Well this past weekend, we took her latest doll, Mortimer the Mortician, to the 4th St. cemetery in New Philadelphia, OH for a photo shoot. What better backdrops for a man of his profession?

We found this amazing monument with THE MOST gorgeous wreath of calla lilies and the hand in the center with the finger pointing up towards the heavens! Only problem was, Joyce is short and this monument was not.....LOL So she was stretched up on her tippy toes and doing her best impression of the Statue of Liberty so that I could get Mortimer and the wreath in the same shot! (Way to stretch JoycEE!)

This is one of the doors that was on one of the tiny mausoleums. It had a rusty grate covering the entrance but the door was open and you could see inside. It was so sad that the little windows had been boarded up where there were probably once little stained glass windows. I still don't understand how someone can vandalize a cemetery or gravestones? *sigh*

This little plot was surrounded by the most awesome rusty wrought iron fencing! The perfect backdrop for little Mortimer!

And here he is in front of the little house that we imagine the groundskeeper to this cemetery once lived in. We could see in the windows to the two small downstairs rooms where one had a fireplace.

It even had a steeple! We just loved the vintage architecture!

And this was the first stone that we happened to see as the perfect place to take Mortimer's first picture! And the way the shadows were cast in the background was perfect!

And for this amazing pic, we would like to thank our friend Sandy for doing her magic! We sent her this picture of the most amazing victorian hearse which ws taken by Spike Bakker and she inserted Mortimer into the pic. We were hoping to get his pic taken with one owned by a local funeral home but the funeral director "got busy" this weekend and we were unable to do it. SO......it ws Sam to the rescue!!! Thank you so much......you're THE BEST!!

She's Finally Finished! May I present to you.....Vladimira!

Well.....FINALLY! I thought I would never see the daylight! LOL Why she took so long to come to life, I have no clue. I just could not seem to get her finished! HA! Maybe it's because she's one of those "ladies of the night" perhaps? She wanted to be born in the darkness of the night? Yeah....I think that's my excuse for taking so long to complete this one! ;o) Sounds like a good excuse to me!

I really think that the reason is because I wanted something really special to go in this amazing frame. I think I honestly wanted to hang onto it, because I might never find one quite as perfect as this again. So by not finishing her.......I was getting to enjoy looking at her just hanging around the house for months! =o)

But, she's finished now and I think that this has to be my favorite paintings of all time! I LOVE the way the frame looks framing her. It's shape reminds me of a mausoleum, like the old ones that you see in spooky old cemeteries. So with that observation came the idea for my first vampiress.

Her name is Vladimira, which is the feminine version of Vladimir, and I hope you will stop by and visit her eBay auction. Oh.....and don't forget to wear your garlic necklace.........*giggle*

I'm terrible at taking pics of WIPs but here is one that I have to share.........

I bought this vintage wooden frame at a church yard sale in June and I paid a whole 10 cents for it. It was plain wood with a religious print from a calendar inside it and had a piece of cardboard for the backing. On that piece of cardboard, in a man's handwriting, was the name and town of the man that had made it. I asked a man that I used to babysit for if he recognized the name since he was from the same town. It turns out that he did know him and what was even more of a coincidence was that the day he walked by here to tell me that he had checked on the maker of the frame, I was talking to my neighbor lady who is in her 80's. When she heard him say his name, she said she knew him too and that he was a woodworker and had made her kitchen cabinets! She told me that if I had asked her first, she could have told me exactly who he was! lol

Anyhow........I just love the tramp art look of this frame!! I took it apart and the man that I used to babysit for had a scrap piece of oak veneered paneling that he cut to fit for me. I painted the frame black and sanded all the edges to give it that timeworn look and painted the inside a gorgeous Halloween orange....So now I just need to get busy and paint something on it!

I LOVE finding little treasures like this to paint on. This frame would have possibly ended up in someone's trash.......and that would have made me clear sick! All the time that was put into making it........cutting out all those little notches, the sanding, the finishing.......even the back has little wooden strips that were cut to fit and tacked into place to hold the picture in. Not like today's Made in China frames. This is pure art and I for one, truly appreciate the craftmanship that went into it.

I want to congratulate my best friend Joyce Stahl of Enchanted Productions on her article in the current issue of Art Doll Quarterly! Joyce submitted 4 dolls for the fall 2009 issue and they used all 4 of her dolls!!

As you all may well know, I list Joyce's dolls for her on eBay. She creates, I take their pics, she writes their auction descriptions and I set up their auctions and add the music that goes with them.

It was 3 years ago that Joyce walked into our shoppe with her dolls and their was one that as soon as I saw it, I said, "Joyce, this doll needs to go on eBay......." and the rest is history! =D

Now she can finally say that she's published......and in what is known as "The Most Elite" of all the Doll Magazines out there! It's been a long road Joycee, but well worth every mile! I'm so proud of you and happy for you!!

Below is the photo shoot of her 4 dolls that we took at the shoppe the day before they were all shipped off to California. We were even able to keep track of their journey across the states, thanks to the USPS online Track and Confirm feature!

This past Sunday, we did something that we haven't done for years..........spent the day on a boat! My sister and brother in law bought a pontoon boat this summer and invited us out for the day. It was the perfect day for boating....blue skies with huge white fluffy clouds.....and gorgeous scenery! We spent about 5 hours out on the lake and had so much fun! Jadyn loved the water and were we all surprised that she wasn't afraid of it! I honestly think that she would have stayed in there the entire day if we hadn't made her get out. =D

...of Oldecapeprimitives (Grimitives) made this adorable little pumpkin girl and had her available on this month's PFATT Marketplace. Well, when I saw the set of 3 little pumpkin girls, it was a hard decision making up my mind which one I wanted but the little white one won my heart! =o)

Kaf wraps everything up so perfectly too! Orange tissue paper, black and orange raffia and even her own little notecards to go with them! Unwrapping a package from her is more fun than Christmas morning! I keep telling her that she needs to go into the professional gift wrapping business! =o)

My granddaughter Jadyn, upon seeing her said, "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww........!" Then quickly hugged her and placed a kiss directly on her crooked little pumpkin mouth! =o)

Oh...........and little Phoebe just loves getting her picture taken.....can you tell? Say "pumpkin seeds"!

I belong to two very amazing eBay groups..........both EHAG and PFATT. This spring, each of these groups had a swap and I signed up to do both. In an earlier post, I shared the gifts that I got to send and now I want to share with you all what I received. I know that the saying goes......."It's better to give than receive" but it's SO much fun to get to unwrap these special treats when they arrive! =o)

Here are all the goodies that I received from Pam of Softinthehead for the PFATT Swap! OH MY!!!!!!! I was once lucky girl! Thank you so much Pam for all the sweet gifts! Your little mousie is so cute! I love my little pumpkin guy! The Bethany Lowe garland is so yummy! I love the Martha Stewart tags and my card! The witch sign and the wax ornie are perfect! You were way too good to my girlfriend!! =o)

And below is my wonderfully sweet EHAG swap gift that I received from Amelia aka Sweet B Folk Art! Isn't he adorable??? And she gave me the cutest card and some Smarties candy to fill him up with! Jadyn's favorite candy is Smarties, so this made her extra happy!!

What Does it Feel like to turn the Big 5-0?

No different than any other day................................LOL! Honestly, it didn't hurt at all hitting that milestone. I woke up on that special day to this sign stuck on my front porch for everyone to see, since I live right on the Main St. of town. My hubby had a gifted artistic co-worker of his make this sign in honor of my special birthday(Thanks Troy!). Thank goodness that it was hard to read by the car passerbys....lol But when I left for work, I looked back towards the house and the little 3-5 year old preschoolers were out on their walk with their teachers and I saw one of the teachers pointing up towards my porch! Hahaha! See, I had tied an inflatable Sponge Bob up along the side of the sign so that hubby would know that yes indeed, I had spied the infamous BD sign..........lol I wonder how many of the little ones noticed the "Girl Gone Wild at 50" sign beside Sponge Bob and if they had any questions about what those things were hanging out of those holes??????????????? One thing about 50........Depends can be your friend!!! *giggle*

Now, I have to show you the most special of gifts that I received form me dear friend Joyce Stahl of Enchanted Productions. Joycee knows how crazy I am about pumpkins and even more crazy about the white (Lumina) ones. I knew that she was working on a doll that was going to be wearing the special "dream dress". One that had came to her in her dreams.

So when she came down to the shoppe with a special birthday lunch for me, I knew she was bringing the doll wearing the special dream dress which I thought I would be listing on eBay this weekend. I was so excited to see what this doll with the special dress was going to look like! One of my favorite parts of listing Joyce's dolls on eBay for her is taking their pictures and when I saw her, I was already thinking how amazing she was going to look standing in front of my vintage ceiling tin tile that I had just given a makeover!

After Oohing and Aahing and drooling all over her...................Joyce said, "Read her name tag!" I turned over the tag and this is what it said, "Happy Birthday Nana...Because you're so special!" Love, JoycEE. "Elizabeth Ann 2009" Elizabeth is my middle name and Ann is JoycEE's. All I could do, as soon as I started reading that tag, was sob like a baby. I had no idea that this special doll was going to be mine...........=o)

Then JoycEE started to tell me what every little piece and scrap of material, trim and buttons meant and where they came from. Each and every one had a special meaning. Some of the materials were the same materials that were used on dolls that had special meaning and or marked special occasions. Some of the vintage buttons I had given to her, some came from vintage jewelry that was purchased during trips that we had taken together on the hunt for treasures to be used on her magical dollies. The vintage seam binding came from Antiques by the Bay which was one of our amazing day trips during our trip to California for PFATT Fest 2008. So many memories................and all stitched by hand with love to create this amazing dream dress and doll. =o)

I can't even begin to tell you how touched I was to be the recipient of such a heart felt gift. There were many tears shed and a whole lot of hugging going on! =o)

Elizabeth Ann holds in her hand the sweetest little heart shaped pumpkin which signifies the love for Halloween that both JoycEE and I share and also our membership in the EHAG eBay group.

JoycEE even whittled her little pumpkin head stem! I know how many hours she has put into creating this precious little gift and I will always think of her and all those special times that we have shared together when I look at ELizabeth Ann!

Thank you JoycEE!!! You helped make my "half way to a century" birthday the most special one ever and one that I will never ever forget!

New Painting on EBay Listed Tonight!

I just listed this new 12"x12" chunky canvas painting on eBay this evening! This is the largest canvas painting that I have done to date.

Her name is Saffron the Sunflower Diva and those icy robin egg blue eyes just pop off the canvas at you!

Here's what I made for my PFATT and EHAG Swap Gifts....

I forgot to post pics here of the two paintings that I did for my PFATT & EHAG swaps! I've been anxious to share them with you all!

First is the swap that I made for a dear PFATT friend......Kaf Grimm of Grimitives. This little painting traveled all the way to Cape Cod, Massachusetts! Wish I could have packed myself in with it and surprised Kaf! I think it would have cost and arm and a leg to send me Priority Mail though.......HAHA!

And my EHAG Anniversary swap went to dear Iva Wilcox of Halloween Alchemy & Ivascreations! This swap package traveled all the way to the Bay Area of Northern California! I was lucky enough to get to visit there last year and would absolutely love to go back again! At least a little part of me has a home there now! *giggle*

Here's all the goodies that were included in both ladies swap packages. I wrapped each painting in orange tissue paper tied with a vintage silver seam binding bow. I included one of my new postcards and I also made hang tags out of my business cards. Each of them also got one of my champagne cork ornies made with real silver glitter and a vintage seam binding hanger (lots of BLING!). I wrote a personal not to each of them on Halloween notecards that were purchased from Megan Wommack of Magpiefeathers. I have a hoarded these little beauties for the last couple of years and only give them out to special recipients.....=o)

Happy Mother's Day & Happy Birthday Morgan!

I remember what I was doing 25 years ago today at 8:36pm. I was in Akron City Hospital giving birth to my daughter Morgan. I will never forget that day because I never thought that I would ever be lucky enough to have a baby.

(7 years earlier, on May 9th, 1977, I gave birth to a stillborn baby that I had carried for 8th months. For the next 7 years, I suffered several miscarriages. So, now I think you can understand why I thought I would never have a baby.)

I was hospitalized twice during my pregnancy with Morgan. The first time when I was just 6 1/2 months, when my cervix started to thin out and it was feared that I wouldn't carry the baby full term. I was sent home after spending 4 days in the hospital with strict orders to be on complete bed rest. I had to go to Akron City Hospital every week for non stress tests to make sure that everything was alright for the rest of my pregnancy. About 3 weeks before my due date, I was hospitalized again when my blood pressure started to go up and they feared that I might develop toxemia. I spent 3 days in the hospital before being sent home once again.

I was so lucky to have found such a wonderful doctor that specialized in high risk pregnancies and had his office right there in the hospital. I know that it was because of him that I carried her full term. He took no chances with me and was extra cautious.

I never knew what we were having while I was carrying her. They didn't do things back then like they do now. In fact, the nurses that did my stress test every week were betting from the heart rate and stubbornness that "she" was a "he"........LOL

Well, they were wrong! Although the name that we had picked out (Morgan) could have been a boy's or a girl's.

I spent my very first Mother's Day in the hospital crying because we were supposed to be released that day, but a case of jaundice prevented that. We were getting her dressed and ready to leave and her pictures taken when the nurse said that she looked a little yellow and that they had better check her for it. She came back in later and told us that we couldn't go home. Well, we mother's all know how our hormones are all out of whack and we can cry at the drop of a hat............and that's just what I did!

Well, it all turned out just fine and 25 years later, she's all grown up and a Mommy now too! =o)

SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY MORGAN!!!! And THANK YOU for giving me the best Mother's Day gift ever and that's for making my a Nana! I even got a gift from her and Jadyn today of beautiful heart shaped necklace with the word Nana on it.

(I also want to wish all the Mother's out there that have lost a child, suffered a miscarriage or a stillbirth a Happy Mother's Day also. We all share the same heartache and bond.)

The Beginning of the Great Pumpkin Adventure...

Well, yesterday was a day of fun, learning, fortune telling, tears, laughter and pain..........LOL Joycee of Enchanted Productions, Brenda of Little Dollings and I all three got together to try our hands at paper mache pumpkin making! Now let me tell you......we were all "paper mache virgins" heading into this adventure. And basically of right now.....still are! But what fun we're having learning!

It all started when we saw this website by Scott Stoll! If you are a Halloween lover, then you have to go see for yourselves!

Below is a pic of the 3 of us after our long day of Pumpkin making and man were we ever tired and achy! We had no idea that pumpkin making was such a back breaking job! lol But a little Advil and a good nights sleep has made me forget about the pain..........kind of like giving birth.........LOL!

Only these babies pictured below are still waiting to be born! This was the first step of stuffing the garbage bags with crumpled newspapers, then using twine and masking tape to define the ridges. Cardboard tubes were used for the beginning form of the stems.

And here's my pumpkin at home today trying to get it dry out in the sun and the wind. Only problem was, while it was sitting out there, the skies began to darken and I heard rain!!! OH NO!!!!!!!!! Now the sun is shining (again) and I have it sitting stem side down on a large sap bucket to dry it's bottom. See....it IS like having a baby! LOL

A special "Thank You" To Laurie Hardin of Monkey Cats Studio for throwing us a lifeline while we had our hands deep in glue, water and liquid starch! She has been a wealth of paper mache knowledge these past fews days and we love her for that!

I painted it black and distressed it, then painted on bittersweet berries with leaves and curly vines. It has a textured black painted brass knob in the center on which to hang the candles. The black nubby taper candles measure 7" long.
